Camden and I were alone last week, but had a great time! As you can see, he got to witness history in the making. While we don't making it a practice of watching TV at our house, we did want to capture this historical moment.
This week, we had a terrible ice storm that has lefts our County devastated. Thousands and thousands of folks have been without power including ourselves. We lost power early Tuesday morning, but stuck it out in the house most of the day because it was too dangerous on the roads. We went to our neighbor's vacant house that evening because they had power only to lose the power about 8 p.m We locked ourselves in a dark bedroom and stuck it out for the night. Fortunately for us (yeah right) Camden's top tooth came in that night. Ahhh . . . the sounds of ice cracking, trees falling, transformers blowing and a baby screaming all while locked in a cold dark room. You get the picture!
We left there and went to Lexington the next morning to try and find a
hot meal as all the
restaurants in Richmond were without power or backed up for blocks with folks waiting in line to eat. While in LEX enjoying our hot meal (thanks Cracker Barrel) an unbelievable snow storm started. We jumped in the van (dogs and all) and raced back to Richmond so we didn't get stranded in LEX. We found some friends who had power, so we went to their house only to lose power a couple of hours later. Camden and I slept by the fireplace that night where we stayed somewhat warm under our many layers of blankets. Our friends regained their power that afternoon so we were able to take a hot shower. Our
power came back on late that night so we were able to return to our house Friday morning. So here we are in a warm home. Camden is sleeping by the fire place as we speak. Billy is sleeping in (because he is sick with a cold) and I am counting my many blessings the biggest of which are power, a safe family, shelter, food to eat, a home that was not damaged by falling trees and friends who have reached out to us in a time of need. For that I am grateful! To put the storm in perspective, our campus (where we work) looks like a war zone and was forced to shut down for the entire week. It has been a stressful and difficult week for many, but we are coming out the back end of it now! Thanks goodness!

Love these pics, especially the one of Camden peeking back at us in his bouncy seat in front of the fireplace. I tell you I will never take electricity for granted again after this power outage. :)
That pic of Camden looking at the inauguration is great! When he was older, he'll find it really interesting that he witnessed history in the making.
