Under the Weather

Poor little Camden had a short stay in the hospital Thursday night. He had been under the weather for some time but took a turn for the worse last weekend when his fever spiked and wouldn't go down. His fever stayed high all week minus the few hours immediately after we would give him infant Tylenol. He eventually became lethargic, not wanting to do anything but sleep (which those who know Camden know that is a real red flag). We took him to the doctor last Monday but when the antibiotics didn't phase him, we took him back on Thursday at which time they grew pretty concerned. After completing some lab work, they realized his white blood cell count and platelet counts were too high. They then sent us to the UK Children's Hospital for observation to make sure there was no underlying infection we weren't catching.

It was a traumatic day for our little guy as they put him through a battery of tests and lab work. Bless his heart! He was such a trooper. We are incredibly blessed that it was nothing serious. Doctors administered additional antibiotic injections and IV fluids for the night. The two seemed to give Camden some much needed relief. While he isn't totally back to his old self, he no longer has his high fever and well . . . isn't wanting to sleep again. We are so thankful and are incredibly thankful for all those who offered their support Thursday and Friday while he was in the hospital.

A particular thanks to my parents who jumped in the car and drove to Lexington at midnight to be with us and help take care of our dogs. Many thanks Mom and Dad!

The pictures show Camden in bed with his foot IV and Camden holding his discharge papers just before we left the hospital on Friday.
